The kings of Saxony strolled in our valleys, Napoleon made halt here and the poet Hermann von Gilm penned his verses - later set to music by Strauss - in this region. The age-old passes to the Salzburg Pinzgau and the Zillertal in Tyrol, the flavour of speck, grey cheese and the traditional broken-up pancake Kaiserschmarrn tell of long-lasting traditions and pleasures for the palate.
